NMFC codes, established by the National Motor Freight Traffic Association (NMFTA), are numerical designations for freight that determine a shipment's freight class and, in turn, its shipping cost for less-than-truckload (LTL) services.
Freight class is assigned based on four factorsâdensity, stowability, handling, and liabilityâwith lower numbers indicating lower costs and higher numbers indicating higher costs.
Calculate freight class based on density. Enter dimensions and weight for a single handling unit.
| Class | Density (lbs/ftÂŗ) | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| 400 | < 1 | Ping pong balls, pillows |
| 300 | 1-2 | Foam, empty containers |
| 250 | 2-4 | Bamboo, mattresses |
| 175 | 4-6 | Clothing, plastic items |
| 125 | 6-8 | Small appliances |
| 100 | 8-10 | Car covers, wine cases |
| 92.5 | 10-12 | Electronics, books |
| 85 | 12-15 | Crated machinery |
| 70 | 15-22.5 | Food, furniture |
| 65 | 22.5-30 | Bottled beverages |
| 60 | 30-35 | Power tools |
| 55 | 35-50 | Bricks, cement |
| 50 | > 50 | Steel, machinery |
Use your barcode scanner to scan a product SKU. The product will be added as a new BOL item.

| 1 but less than 2 | 300 |
| 2 but less than 4 | 250 |
| 4 but less than 6 | 175 |
| 6 but less than 8 | 125 |
| 8 but less than 10 | 100 |
| 10 but less than 12 | 92.5 |
